Does anyone want to do a Drunken Chess Club day this weekend? It just occured to me that our last "monthly" meeting (also our first, so not a terrific track record) was back in March.

First Club Aftermath report
So, not too many people showed up tonight, on accounts of, well, a variety of problems. Was just myself, Erif, Heather & Chris (with Etahn showing up as a cameo with a couple folks). We playing drunken bughouse chess.

For those who missed us at Pyramid, it was packed, so after waiting 30 minutes for people, we headed over to River City Brewing Co. We were reminded (yet again) that RCBC sucks, and their service and product has gone down over the years. It's unfortunately, since it was the birthplace of the Drunken Chess Movement (which is honestly the only reason we keep going there, the sentimental appeal of it), but that happens with some restaurants over time.

Anyway, the next club event is tenatively for Saturday, April 17th, 2004. Now sure what time yet, nor am I sure where yet.

Heather: reminder that you wanted to mention DCC in your LJ.
Erif: It wouldn't hurt for you to mention it, even if you don't think anyone not already a part of it will care ;)

Also, if someone can find official rules (or well writtern and accurate non-official ones) for the bughouse chess variant, please comment. I want to start collecting that info for the site, so that it can be used as a minor resource, in addition to a schedule facilitator.

First Club Night This Friday
Sacramento Drunken Chess Club
Okay, so we're finally going to do this thing.

Date: This Friday, March 19th, 2004
Time: 7:00pm til whenever
Place: Pyramid Alehouse, 1029 K St.*

Website: http://www.drunkenchess.com/

And no, you aren't obligated to drink or play chess - you just have to deal with the fact that other people will.

I went to Pyramid on Monday. Turns out that it's a sit-down restaurant, so I don't know how that'll hold up with the club idea, but we'll see how it works. Worse-case, we'll do it elsewhere next time.

[*No, they don't know who we are, nor do they endorse us. It's just a place that some others dig going to, and I've heard good things about.]

The website is up now (it's not done, but it's up):

There's also a notice-only Yahoo! Group, which you can get to from the website.

If you're interested, please reply (if you haven't already done so elsewhere). I'm not asking for commitments, but a general headcount would be nice, and it'd be cool to know who to expect.
